TRC20 vs BEP20: Which USDT Network Should You Use?

By JOD Rates editorial team Last updated:

In short

The main rule: always send USDT on the same network the receiver asks for, because a transfer on the wrong network can be lost for good. In short, TRC20 is USDT on the TRON network, with addresses that start with T and fees paid from network resources or in TRX, while BEP20 runs on BNB Smart Chain, with addresses that start with 0x, fees paid in BNB, and a pegged token that Tether does not issue directly.

Did the receiver (your wallet, an exchange or another person) ask for a specific network?
The check runs on your device only. The address is not sent anywhere.

How do I use the tool above?

Before you send or receive USDT (Tether), check the network. The tool above helps in two steps. First, it asks whether the receiver (your wallet, an exchange or another person) asked for a specific network. If they did, it tells you to use that same network: that is the main rule. If you choose yourself, both networks work, so pick by your wallet.

Second, you can paste a wallet address to check its format. The check runs on your device only; the address is not sent anywhere. If the format does not match the network you picked, the tool warns you not to send yet.

Your situation Use
Receiver asked for TRC20, or the address starts with T TRC20
Receiver asked for BEP20, or a 0x address and the wallet shows BNB Smart Chain BEP20
A 0x address and the wallet shows another network (e.g. Ethereum) Don’t send yet: ask for the exact network
Buying for yourself, no network set Pick by your wallet

What is the difference between TRC20 and BEP20?

TRC20 and BEP20 name the network the token moves on: TRON or BNB Smart Chain. A normal transfer cannot move a balance from one to the other, so sender and receiver must use the same network.

Network Underlying chain Address starts with Fees paid in Typical finality Issued by Tether?
TRC20 TRON T (34 characters) Network resources (Bandwidth, Energy); if short, TRX is burned Block about every 3 s; final after about 1 minute Yes, on Tether’s official list
BEP20 BNB Smart Chain 0x (42 characters) BNB Block about every 0.45 s; final in about 1.125 s in most cases No, a pegged token BscScan shows as BSC-USD

Speed figures are from the TRON and BNB Chain docs as read on 24 October 2026 and can change; a receiving wallet or exchange may wait longer. We give no fee amounts, as we found no official, dated figures.

What is TRC20?

TRC20 is the token standard on TRON. Tether’s “Supported Protocols” page lists USDT on TRON as a TRC20 token, so it is a version Tether issues itself. According to TRON’s developer docs, a TRON address is 34 characters long and starts with “T”.

TRON fees work through “resources”. Every transaction uses Bandwidth (each activated account gets a free daily amount); smart-contract calls also use Energy, which has no free amount. A USDT TRC20 transfer is a contract call, so under TRON’s resource model it uses Energy, and TRX is burned if you run short.

A TRON transaction is final once at least 19 different Super Representatives have produced blocks at or above it, usually about a minute.

What is BEP20, and is BEP20 USDT issued by Tether?

BEP20 is the token standard on BNB Smart Chain. BNB Chain’s docs say the chain is EVM-compatible (it works like Ethereum), so it uses the Ethereum address format ethereum.org describes: “0x” plus 40 hexadecimal characters. Gas (the network fee) is paid in BNB.

Tether does not issue USDT on BNB Smart Chain. Its “Supported Protocols” page has a BNB Smart Chain section, but it lists only a XAU₮ (Tether Gold) contract, with no USDT contract.

The token people call “USDT BEP20” has the contract 0x55d398326f99059ff775485246999027b3197955. BscScan shows it as “BSC-USD” and describes it as a pegged token backed by tokens held in public addresses of its issuer, a company other than Tether. It is not a fake, but its issuer and backing are not Tether. If the choice is yours and that matters to you, TRC20 is on Tether’s official list.

What is the difference between TRC20 and ERC20?

ERC20 is the token standard on Ethereum, one of the chains where Tether officially issues USDT (others include TRON, Solana and TON). So TRC20 and ERC20 differ in chain and address format, not issuer. Watch out: Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain share the 0x format, so an address starting with 0x is not automatically BEP20.

Network Underlying chain Address starts with Tether lists USDT on it?
TRC20 TRON T Yes
ERC20 Ethereum 0x Yes
BEP20 BNB Smart Chain 0x No, the token is the pegged BSC-USD

Which network should I choose when buying or selling in Jordan?

Buying to send to someone? Buy on the network they ask for. Buying for yourself? Pick what your wallet supports; see the USDT wallet guide.

Vexjo charges no extra fees: the price you see is what you pay, and on TRC20 the network fee is already in the JOD price.

Disclosure: this site is owned by Vexjo Virtual Assets LLC. About us

Network Buying from Vexjo Selling to Vexjo
BEP20 Nothing is added to the price You send from your wallet; your wallet pays the fee in BNB
TRC20 Network fee included in the JOD price: now 2 JD You send from your wallet; the fee comes from its resources or burned TRX

Right now, 100 USDT costs 78 JD on BEP20 and 80 JD on TRC20 (last update 13:02 Amman time). For other amounts, use the USDT and JOD calculator.

  1. Sign up on Vexjo. The app asks for an invite code, which you can request from the Vexjo team on WhatsApp.
  2. Choose “Buy”, then the amount and the network that matches your wallet address. Unsure? Use the tool above.
  3. Pay with CliQ inside the app. Vexjo’s team confirms your payment, then USDT goes to your wallet automatically. For anything else, follow the steps in the app; details are in how to buy USDT in Jordan.

When you sell, you send USDT from your own wallet, so your wallet pays the network fee. Send to the address you are shown, on the network you chose in the order. Your USDT is checked on the blockchain automatically, then Vexjo sends your dinars.

How do I know which network my address is on?

Look at the network name your wallet shows next to the USDT receive address, and at how the address begins:

  • T, 34 characters: a TRON address. Use TRC20.
  • 0x, 42 characters: Ethereum-style. It may be BEP20 or another network such as Ethereum, so check the wallet shows BNB Smart Chain.
  • Neither, or too short: copy it from your wallet again.

The tool above catches a network mismatch, not a wrong person. Check the whole address, middle included: in “address poisoning”, a scammer sends a tiny amount from a lookalike address, hoping you copy it from your history later. Sending outside Jordan? Read how to send USDT abroad.

What happens if I send USDT on the wrong network?

Once final, a blockchain transfer cannot be reversed, as TRON’s docs explain. A help page from a well-known Ethereum wallet maker (see sources) describes two cases. Between two 0x networks, such as Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain, the same address exists on both, so funds can often be reached by switching networks. On a network that does not work like Ethereum, the funds likely went to an address nobody can access: “your tokens are gone forever”.

TRON does not work like Ethereum, and its addresses differ (T vs 0x), so mixing up TRC20 and BEP20 is a real risk. Try a small amount first with a new address. If a mistake happens, give the receiver the transaction ID; only they may be able to reach their address on the other network.

How do I check a transfer on Tronscan or BscScan?

Use the network’s public explorer: Tronscan for TRC20, BscScan for BEP20 (a TRC20 transaction does not appear on BscScan, and the reverse). Search for the transaction ID (TxID or hash) from the wallet and check:

What to check What you should see
Status Successful; on TRON, final after about a minute
Receiving address Your address, character by character
Amount Exactly the amount agreed
Token contract BscScan: BSC-USD with the contract above. Tronscan: the TRON USDT contract on Tether’s Supported Protocols page

Don’t rely on a screenshot someone sends you; the explorer is the proof.

Who pays the network fee, and why do I need TRX or BNB?

Network fees are not paid in USDT:

  • BNB Smart Chain: gas is paid in BNB. With no BNB, you cannot send BEP20 USDT.
  • TRON: a USDT transfer uses Bandwidth and Energy; if they run short, TRX is burned. Keep a little TRX for TRC20 sends.

When you buy from Vexjo, you do not pay the network fee from your wallet. To send later from your own wallet, including when you sell, you need BNB for BEP20 or TRX for TRC20.

Is there “flash USDT” on TRC20?

“Flash USDT” is not a network. Threat-intelligence firm ZeroFox describes “flash” coins as fake crypto that disappears soon after it lands in a wallet, and reports fake Tether tokens sold online for scams. Never trust the name “USDT” alone: check the token contract on the explorer against Tether’s official page (TRON) or the BSC-USD contract on BscScan (BEP20). More in the USDT safety checklist.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between TRC20 and BEP20 USDT?

TRC20 is USDT on the TRON network: addresses start with T and fees are paid from network resources or in TRX. BEP20 runs on BNB Smart Chain: addresses start with 0x, fees are paid in BNB, and the token there is a pegged token that Tether does not issue directly.

Which network should I choose when I buy USDT in Jordan?

Choose the network the receiver asks for, or the one your wallet supports if you are buying for yourself. When you buy from Vexjo, nothing is added on BEP20, and on TRC20 the network fee is already in the JOD price.

Is BEP20 USDT issued by Tether?

No. Tether lists no USDT contract on BNB Smart Chain. The token people call USDT BEP20 is shown on the BscScan explorer as BSC-USD, a pegged token issued by another company.

What happens if I send USDT on the wrong network?

Blockchain transfers cannot be undone, and the money can be lost for good, especially between TRON and 0x networks because the addresses are different. Always send on the network the receiver asks for and check the address format first.

How do I know if my address is TRC20 or BEP20?

A TRC20 address starts with T and is 34 characters long. A BEP20 address starts with 0x and is 42 characters long, but other networks such as Ethereum use the same 0x format, so check that your wallet shows BNB Smart Chain.

Why do I need TRX or BNB in my wallet?

Network fees are not paid in USDT. On BNB Smart Chain they are paid in BNB; on TRON a transfer uses network resources, and if those run short, TRX is burned to cover them.

How do I check that a USDT transfer arrived?

Take the transaction ID (TxID) and search for it on Tronscan for TRC20 or on BscScan for BEP20. Check the status, the receiving address, the amount and the token contract.
