Why is the USDT (Tether) market price different from the bank dollar rate?
In short
The dollar's rate in dinars is an official rate published by the Central Bank of Jordan, around 0.709 JD because the dinar is pegged to the dollar, while USDT is a digital token issued by a private company and the central bank publishes no rate for it. So you buy and sell USDT at a market price set by a dealer, with a gap between the buy and sell price that, in the current price table, is wider per USDT on small orders.

What is the difference between the USDT market price and the bank dollar rate?
The dollar’s rate in dinars is an official, near-fixed rate: the dinar is pegged to the dollar, and the Central Bank of Jordan publishes official exchange rates. USDT (Tether) is not a dollar in a bank account but a digital token issued by a private company, Tether, and the central bank publishes no rate for it.
So the JOD price of USDT comes from the market: dealers and trading markets that buy and sell it. Each dealer shows a buy price and a sell price, and the gap is its margin.
| Official dollar rate in JD | USDT price in JD | |
|---|---|---|
| Who publishes it | Central Bank of Jordan | The dealer or trading market |
| What it rests on | The dinar’s peg to the dollar since 1995, at a mid-rate of 0.709 JD | The dollar rate, the dealer’s margin, the order size, and sometimes a network fee |
| Does it change with the amount? | No, the table does not link the rate to an amount | Yes; in the current price table, small orders cost more per USDT when you buy |

What is the official dollar rate in Jordanian dinars?
Since 1995 the Central Bank of Jordan has kept a fixed exchange rate for the dinar against the US dollar, at a mid-rate of 709 fils per dollar, or 0.709 JD.
The central bank publishes official foreign-exchange rates, in fils, on its foreign exchange rates page. For each currency the table shows two numbers, “lowest” and “highest”. In the table of 22 October 2026 the dollar was between 708 and 710 fils.
The table lists the US dollar, euro, Japanese yen, British pound and Swiss franc, and no USDT or other digital currency. So a USDT price called “official” is described wrongly.
Why is USDT not the same as a dollar in the bank?
Tether says each USDT is pegged to one US dollar and fully backed by its reserves. That is a promise by a private company, not a rate set by a central bank. This is why the JOD price of USDT stays close to 0.709, but a dealer’s price is not exactly that.
For more on the peg, see “Why is the USDT price close to the dollar rate in dinars?” on the USDT price today page, and what is Tether (USDT).
There is a practical reason too. Tether’s fees page sets a minimum of 100,000 US dollars to buy or redeem its tokens directly, a 150-dollar verification fee, and a redemption fee of 1,000 dollars or 0.1%, whichever is greater. So anyone buying 100 or 1,000 USDT buys from a dealer or trading market, at that dealer’s price.
What is the spread between the buy and sell price?
The spread is the gap between a dealer’s sell price and its buy price. It buys lower, sells higher, and the difference pays for the service.
Right now, on a 1,000 USDT order, you buy 1 USDT for 0.740 JD and sell it for 0.685 JD (last update 16:00 Amman time). Compare both with the official dollar rate of 0.709 JD: the dealer’s buy price is above it and its sell price is below it.
Example: buy 100 USDT now for 78 JD, sell them straight back for 65 JD. The difference is the dealer’s margin on that amount, both ways.
The prices on this site come from Vexjo, which owns this site. Vexjo adds no extra fees on top of this spread: the price you see is what you pay, and on TRC20 the network fee is already in the JOD price.

Why do small orders cost more per USDT?
In the current price table, the price of 1 USDT changes with the order size:
| 100 USDT order | 1,000 USDT order | |
|---|---|---|
| You buy 1 USDT for (JD) | 0.780 | 0.740 |
| You sell 1 USDT for (JD) | 0.650 | 0.685 |
There are two reasons:
- Tiers. The dealer sets a price for each amount and works out amounts in between in proportion. In the current table the buy price per USDT falls as the order grows, and the sell price per USDT rises.
- Rounding. The buy price is rounded up to a whole dinar and the sell price down. Less than one dinar hardly shows on 1,000 USDT, but it does on 100 USDT.
Here is the full amount you pay or receive right now for each size:
| Amount | You pay when buying (JD) | You receive when selling (JD) |
|---|---|---|
| 100 USDT | 78 | 65 |
| 500 USDT | 375 | 341 |
| 1,000 USDT | 740 | 685 |
If you plan to buy in several steps, compare one large order with several small ones in the USDT and JOD calculator first.
Is the USDT price in dinars fixed like the dollar rate?
The official dollar rate barely moves, because the dinar is pegged. In the central bank’s tables for 21 and 22 October 2026 the dollar stayed between 708 and 710 fils.
A dealer sets its own USDT price and can change it at any time, so two dealers can differ on the same day. That is why we show the last update time (Amman) with every price and keep an hourly record under the USDT price today board. Rely on the price you see before you confirm, not on yesterday’s price or a screenshot.
Is the network fee part of the USDT price?
USDT moves on a blockchain network such as TRC20 or BEP20, so the JOD price can depend on the network. Buying from Vexjo on TRC20, the price is 2 JD higher: the network fee, already included in the JOD price. Nothing is added on BEP20. When you sell, the network does not change the price, but your wallet pays the sending fee. To choose a network, read TRC20 or BEP20.
What does the “black market” USDT price mean?
Some people search for “USDT price today on the black market”, as if USDT had one official price in banks and another outside them. We do not describe any price that way.
There is no official USDT rate in Jordan at all, so every JOD price for USDT is a market price set by whoever buys and sells. The useful questions are: who is offering this price, when was it updated, and is it the final amount? Our USDT price today page shows Vexjo’s market price with the last update time, and shows “Prices are not available right now” instead of an old number if the feed fails.
Can I buy USDT at the bank rate?
Some people search for “buy USDT at the bank rate”. There is no bank rate for USDT: the central bank’s rate is for the dollar, not for a privately issued token. Any USDT bought for dinars is bought at a market price that includes the dealer’s margin; in the current price table, larger orders get a better price per USDT.

How do you read a USDT price before you buy or sell?
- Look at the full JOD amount for your size, not a per-unit price quoted for another size.
- Compare the buy and sell price: the gap is roughly what you lose if you buy and sell at once.
- Ask about the network fee: inside the price, or added after you confirm?
- Check the last update time, not an old price or a screenshot.
- Every USDT price is a market price; calling one “official” is wrong.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the USDT buy price higher than the bank's dollar rate?
Because the official dollar rate (about 0.709 JD) does not apply to USDT. A dealer sells you USDT at a market price that includes its margin, so the buy price is above the official dollar rate and the sell price is below it.
Is the USDT price on this site an official rate?
No. It is a market price that Vexjo publishes for buying and selling USDT, shown with the last update time. The Central Bank of Jordan publishes official exchange rates for currencies, and USDT is not one of them.
What is the 'black market' USDT price?
It is a phrase some people search for when looking up USDT prices outside banks. We do not describe any price that way: there is no official USDT rate at all, so every JOD price for USDT is a market price set by whoever buys and sells.
Why is 1 USDT more expensive on a 100 USDT order than on a 1,000 USDT order?
Prices are set in tiers by amount, and the buy price is rounded up to a whole dinar while the sell price is rounded down. In the current price table, this makes the price per USDT higher when you buy a small amount and lower when you sell one.
Can I buy USDT at the bank rate?
There is no bank rate for USDT; the central bank's dollar rate does not apply to it. Any purchase of USDT for dinars happens at a market price that includes the dealer's margin.
Why not buy USDT directly from Tether?
Tether's fees page sets a minimum of 100,000 US dollars to buy or redeem tokens directly, plus a 150-dollar verification fee. So people buying smaller amounts go through a dealer or a trading market.
Is the TRC20 network fee included in the price?
Yes, when you buy from Vexjo: on TRC20 the network fee is already in the JOD price, and the amount is shown next to the prices. Nothing is added on BEP20.
